The Circus Research Network (Britain and Ireland) brings together circus practitioners interested in research with researchers interested in circus (and some are both).
Founded by Helen Averley of Let’s Circus http://www.letscircus.com/about-us/ and Professor Ron Beadle of Northumbria University https://www.northumbria.ac.uk/about-us/our-staff/b/ron-beadle/ our launch event brought together 17 people from academia, contemporary circus, social circus and traditional circus: http://www.thecircusdiaries.com/2014/06/20/uk-ireland-circus-research-network/
Since then our numbers have grown to over 160 (106 in Britain and Ireland with friends in Canada, across Europe, the States, Australia and many others) and they include industry leaders, festival organisers, trainers, performers, teachers, directors, new scholars and much else besides. We use a ListServ to enable members to contact everyone on the network if they need the answer to a question, support on a project, are issuing a conference call or announcing some news : https://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/cgi-bin/webadmin?A0=CIRCUSRESEARCHNETWORK
Our network has enabled research students to access participants, publications to be shared and circus events and tours to be advertised. Because we are simply an enabling organization we don’t commission research, take a view on issues, run projects or make recommendations. We are simply a resource for anyone involved in or fascinated by circus.
Anyone can join but we do insist that new members send a brief biographical sketch so that everyone else can see whether they might have shared interest and get in touch. If you would like to join us just email Ron on ron.beadle@northumbria.ac.uk
